The HK X100 balancing LiPo charger, actually a rebranded IMAX unit, is the smaller brother of the X200. According to HobbyKing, the “new X100 Charger is the latest and most innovative battery charger, with its super cool aesthetics and full color touch screen”, and has become the “must have charger”. But is it really? And is it worth getting at the $50 that HK asks for? Let’s find out in our in-depth review after the break.
Let’s get real for a moment here: The fact of the matter is that a simple four-button charger gets the job done, and there’s models ranging from a few bucks for 50W to the ThunderPower 1000W 14 charger. 4-button chargers are mostly very user friendly and easy to use, and there’s no real reason to go for anything else for simple LiPo field charging. So should you jump for this touchscreen-operated spaceship of a charger? Find out after the break.
This massive 2000W charger features 2 independent channels that can deliver up to 40A charge current. Both channels can be chained together for a max. current of a whopping 70A. The best part is that this charger features a balancing current of up to 1.2A, which is something a lot of competitors skimp on, often supporting a measly 200mA.
Price is fluctiating between USD 320 on ProgressiveRC and USD 450 on GoodLuckBuy. European customers can preorder this massive beast at Junsi Germany for EUR 310 or this Austrian retailer for EUR 300. This may sound like a lot of money, but one should keep in mind that this amount of power and specs easily beats the Pulsar 3, which costs almost twice as much! And while it doesn’t have a fancy touchscreen, the operation and menu structure looks rather simple and intuitive.
Complete technical specs and manufacturer link after the break.
A balance charger strictly for 3S battery packs? What might sound like an insane design choice at first blush does make a lot of sense when you think about the fact that most FPV platforms run on 3 cells, it’s the most popular pack configuration and thus always the first to go out of stock at retailers. But is this charger a hidden gem or a battery killer?

The Smart6 charger is a 6-cell charger with up to 80W charging and 5W discharge rating, at a max of 7A for charging and 1.5A for discharging respectively. The biggest eyecatcher is of course the graphical display, showing the charge curve just like the much more expensive models by graupner, robbe or schulze. Is that charger a winner? Does chinese quality control get things right with this one? Will it blend?
